DETAILED DESCRIPTION
PC-LEARN is a training system which includes chapters on buying
and using a computer, an entertaining history of computers, DOS
lessons, hard disk drives and tech tips, and even telephone
support numbers where you can call with your questions! It also
includes information on word processing, a suggested reading
list, software selection, computer clubs, batch files,
spreadsheets, databases, and even a glossary! Other tutorials
include using shareware for beginners and environmentally
sensitive computing. New with this version is also a large
mailing list of national computer clubs which the computer
beginner can use to locate computer resources throughout America.
A perfect package for the first time computer user!
PC-LEARN runs on all IBM compatible PC's. PC-LEARN has been
selected a recommended beginner's choice by 21 computer clubs
and has been featured in two national computer magazines. PC-
LEARN is shareware. Program runs on ALL systems and does NOT
require color or special graphics. A hard drive or high density
floppy drive is recommended for this version, but program can
also run from standard 360K drives. Registration information is
contained in the file BONUS.TUT within the main unpacked
program. New features include updated high speed color or
monochrome menus, tutorial printing on your printer, information
searching capabilities, revised tutorials and much more!
If you or your company would like to design a special training
or production software program which looks and operates like PC-
LEARN (high speed menus, ease of use, search features, printing,
etc.), but contains your unique company data or tutorials,
contact the author of this program. Your company name, address,
logo or other information can be added.
If you would like to reprint sections of PC-LEARN in your
newsletter, community newspaper, BBS or other printed resource,
please contact the author at the address and telephone number
above for special (very liberal!) arrangements.
Submitting a requested $25 registration fee to the author of PC-
LEARN brings two VALUABLE bonus disks by mail which every
computer user or beginner should obtain to learn about and use a
computer to its full potential. The bonus disks are designed to
minimize computer frustration and add to the power of PC-LEARN.
You will be delighted you paid the small registration fee with
the gain in time, energy and understanding the bonus disks will
provide. Over 9,000 people have registered PC-LEARN in the past
three years!
If you are new to computers you may not have heard the term
SHAREWARE. PC-LEARN is shareware. This means a software
programmer has prepared a software program which you are free to
copy and share with others, the author encourages you to use and
EVALUATE the program for up to 30 days subject to your possible
payment of a final registration fee to continue full and legal
use of the program. Submitting an honest registration fee on an
honor system means the author of PC-LEARN will provide two
additional valuable bonus disks, shipped by mail to you plus any
updates to PC-LEARN.
If you received a copy of PC-LEARN with your new computer, you
are essentially EVALUATING this program subject to your final
purchase. You may print a registration form on your printer by
selecting the "print registration form" option from the main
menu. If you received this disk from a shareware distributor who
charged $3 or $4 for a sample copy disk, you have only paid a
distribution/handling fee for an evaluation disk of which NO
PORTION goes to the author of the software. You are expected to
pay for the program if you continue to use it or discontinue
your use of the program if you do not pay for it.
Registered owners receive by mail:
1) Two BONUS DISKS every new computer owner should obtain.
2) Latest version/update of PC-LEARN if later version available.
3) Registration number and legal authorization to continue
using the program.
The author of PC-LEARN can create a CUSTOMIZED COVER SCREEN with
your store address and LOGO. Remember that since PC-LEARN will
be copied by many people, your advertisement will be copied with
it! PC-LEARN is thus both a tutorial and a marketing tool!
Customized logos and cover screens are also available for
computer clubs and are a wonderful way to boost membership and
make new members feel good about your club's "personalized" copy
of PC-LEARN. Ideal retail locations include computer stores,
stores with magazine racks, book stores, convenience stores,
electronics stores, small printing or Xerox copy shops, college
bookstores, retirement facilities, and of course software
stores.
INSTALLATION AND UNPACKING OF THIS PROGRAM
The main PC-LEARN package is stored in compressed files produced
by the software program LHA written by Haruyasu Yoshizaki.
Unpacking to a hard drive or high density floppy is recommended.
You can install to floppy drives of the following sizes: 360K,
720K, 1.2M, 1.44M.
Simply use the following command at the DOS prompt: INSTALL
After unpacking, start program with either command:
GO or PCL.
The sole owner of the PC-LEARN software package is Seattle
Scientific Photography and Jim Hood who assume no liability,
intended or otherwise, for the use or misuse of this package or
the information or software code contained within. No warranties
are offered, either expressed or implied. Your rights in this
respect may vary from state to state.
A MESSAGE TO SHAREWARE DISK VENDORS AND BBS SYSOPS
Shareware distributors and disk vendors: Here is how you can
SELL MORE DISKS and help new users enjoy ordering your
shareware! Consider sending or selling at reduced price a CUSTOM
version of PC-LEARN with your company name, logo and training on
how to use, order and unpack YOUR shareware to all of your
customers. Or consider reprinting my shareware tutorial for
beginners in your catalog!
Send a PC-LEARN training disk with every order shipped to new
clients to SPEED THE LEARNING PROCESS OF USING AND BUYING
SHAREWARE. Beginners learn quickly and thus become more
comfortable and WANT TO BUY and try new shareware. It really
works!
I have added a special "how to use shareware" tutorial to PC-
LEARN which answers all those nagging questions about using and
understanding shareware: how to unpack, use readme files, track
down documentation and so forth. I can further customize the
tutorial to talk about YOUR shareware operation! How many times
do you have to answer the same questions and wish you had a
custom disk to hand out with quick easy instructions! Maybe you
use a special batch file startup on your disks or include a list
of files on a special readme of every disk. Let's work together
and create a custom version of PC-LEARN just for you! I am here
to solve your problems. Let's work together.
I am frequently asked for permission to use portions of PC-LEARN
as tutorial or reference material for public posting on BBS
systems. Permission is hereby granted for BBS distribution. If
you wish to use articles from PC-LEARN for educational purposes,
my request is that the following message be posted at the
BEGINNING and END of section(s) of PC-LEARN text which are used
on a public BBS:
This text is reproduced with permission of the author of the PC-
LEARN tutorial for beginners. For a registered copy of this
extensive disk tutorial send a $25 registration fee to: Seattle
Scientific Photography, PO Box 1506, Mercer Island, WA 98040.
Two bonus disks will be sent plus the latest PC-LEARN update.
PC-LEARN is shareware!
